Corona corazones

Como todos los martes, hace dos o tres semanas, llegué a mi clase de patch en La Tertulia del Patch. Nada más entrar me topé con una preciosa corona de corazones que había hecho la maravillosa Silvia. Cuando subí a la clase vi que nuestras compañeras de la clase de 4 a 6 pm estaban haciéndola.

As every tuesday, two of three weeks ago, I went to my patch-class at La Tertulia del Patch. As soon as I entered the shop I saw a beautiful wreath made of hearts that marvelous Silvia had made. When I got up to the class I saw that our colleagues from the 4 to 6 pm class were making it.

Como de costumbre, pensé que tenía que hacer una para mi casa. Pero esta vez decidí terminar los que estaba haciendo y dejar la corona para más tarde. Cuando digo "Más tarde" quiero decir un par de días después.

As usual, I thought I had to make one for my home. But this time I decided to finish what I was doing and to leave the wreath for later on. When I say "Later on" I mean a couple of days later.

Parecía un proyecto fácil pero me costó un poco. Había que dibujar, coser, cortar y rellenar 21 corazones. Una vez hecho eso vino la peor parte, tuve que juntar todos los corazones para hacer la corona. Tuve que intentarlo dos o tres veces hasta que que logré que pareciera una corona.

It seemed like an easy project but it took me a while. There were 21 hearts to be drawn, sewed, cut and filled. Once all of that was done the worst part came, I had to put all hearts together to make the wreath. I had to try it twice of three times before I could manage to make it look like a wreath.

Normalmente no hago cosas que solo puedan usarse en Navidad. Me encanta hacer cosas así que prefiero disfrutarlas durante todo el año. Para este proyecto elegí telas que tuviesen un toque navideño (rojizos) en vez de telas con diseños navideños. También compré un par de muñequitos navideños que pueden usarse durante esta época pero más tarde quitarse fácilmente.

I usually don't make stuff which can only be used during Christmas. I love to make things so I rather enjoy them during the whole year. For this project I chose fabrics which would look Christmas-like (reddish) instead of fabrics with Christmas patterns. I also bought a couple of Christmas dolls which can be used during this season but easy removed later on.

Esta mañana he subido los adornos de Navidad así que os dejo porque me espera mucho trabajo.

This morning I got out all the Christmas decoration so I must go now because I have quite a lot of work ahead.

Santa o Fray-Patch??

El sábado pasado tuve la oportunidad de pasar un buen rato con Francesca Ogliari. No era la primera vez; ya había hecho una oca y un bolso con ella en su anterior visita a Madrid. Esta vez trabajamos en un Santa que había diseñado especialmente para La Tertulia del Patch. Bueno, he decidido que sea un monje-patch (Fray-Patch) no un Santa, así lo puedop lucir durante todo el año y no solo en Navidad.

Last Saturday I had the opportunity to spend some time with Francesca Ogliari. It wasn't the first time; I had already done a goose and a handbag with her during her previous visit to Madrid. This time we worked on the Santa's project she specially designed for La Tertulia del Patch. Well, I've decided that it will be a patch-monk (Fray-Patch) instead of a Santa so I can show it all year round not only at Christmas.

Como de costumbre ha sido super maja y muy paciente con todas nosotras, ayudándonos siempre que lo necesitábamos (con bastante frecuencia).

As usual she's been really nice and patient with all of us and helped whenever it was needed (quite frequently).

A la hora de la comida he tenido la oportunidad de hablar con ella y con Silvia (blog Silvia). Francesca me ha dicho que su nuevo libro, con suerte, será publicado en la primavera 2013 (ya estoy impaciente por verlo). Me comentó que entonces volvería para presentarlo y que haríamos uno de los bolsos incluidos en el libro.

At lunchtime I had the opportunity to have a chat with her a Silvia (blog Silvia). Francesca told me then that her new bolk it will, hopefully, be published in spring 2013 (I'm impatient to have a look at it). She said that she would come back then to present it and aldo that we would do one of the handbags included in the book.

Quería haber acabado mi llamado "Fray-Patch" pero no tuve suficiente tiempo. Por lo menos terminé la mayoría y solo me quedó por terminar parte del edredón y coser la capucha de su hábito de monje. Como muchas habréis adivinado, ya está todo terminado.

I really wanted to finish my so called "Fray-Patch" but I didn't have enough time. At least I managed to finish most of it leaving only part of the quilt and to sew the hood to the monk's costume. As many of you will have guessed, everything is done by now.

Bolsa portátil

Hace unas semanas, visité el blog de Country Kitty y vi que había hecho una maravillosa bolsa para el portátil para llevársela en su visita a Estados Unidos. Tan pronto como la vi decidí que tenía que hacerme una.

A few weeks ago, I visited Country Kitty's blog and I saw a gorgeours laptop case she had done to take along with her in her visit to the States. As soon as I saw it I decided I had to do one for myself.

Era la primera vez que ponía una cremallera en una bolsa de este tipo, por lo que tuve que buscar un tutorial en la web. Encontré uno muy bueno de mairamkitty crafts.

It was the first time I had to put a zip to a bag, so I had to look for a tutorial on the web. I found one from mairamkitty crafts which came very handy.

¡Y por fin hice la oca!

Hace ya un mes de mi última entrada. He estado haciendo bastantes cosas pero no encontraba el momento de hacer las fotos para el blog.

Hoy ha parado de llover durante un rato y, antes de volver a coger la aguja, he decidido hacer fotos de uno de mis últimos proyectos.

It's been a month since my last entry. I've been doing quite a lot of things so I haven't found the time to take pictures for the blog.

Today it stopped raining for a while so, before taking the needle again, I  decided to take some pictures of one of my latest projects.

Es un proyecto que llevo tiempo queriendo hacer, pero nunca encontraba las telas adecuadas. En mi visita a Creativa Madrid encontré estás preciosidades en el stand de Mi Casita del Patch. Tan pronto como las vi, supe que haría algo bonito con ellas.

It's a project I've been wanting to do for a while, but I never seem to find the right fabrics for it. In my visit to Creativa in Madrid I found these beauties at the stand of Mi Casita del Patch. As soon as I saw them, I knew I would do something nice with them.

Since I had some fabric left from the goose, I couldn't resist myself to make a strawberry heart for my night table.

Mi cesta para la playa

Este verano he lucido esta fantástica cesta de playa. En cuanto se la vi a Cristina, mi profe en La Tertulia del Patch, no pude resistirme. Vamos, lo de siempre, culo veo culo quiero.

This summer I've shown off this fantastic beach basket. As soon as I saw the one from Cristina, my teacher at La Tertulia del Patch, I couldn't resist myself. As usual.

En la última clase antes de las vacaciones me puse con ello y al día siguiente la tenía lista para ir a la playa.

I started it in the last class before holidays and the day after it was ready to go to the beach.

Ahora ya toca guardarla con el resto de cosas de la playa pero estoy deseando volver a lucirla el verano que viene.

Now is time to keep it with all the beach stuff but I can't wait to take it back to the beach next summer.

De paseo por York

Aunque ya había estado un par de veces, tenía muchísimas ganas de volver a York. Es una ciudad inglesa con mucho encanto y sin la multitud de Londres.

Después de pasar un día de tiendas, sobretodo de antigüedades, no puede faltar una visita a las terrazas del río Ouse. Una manera de relajarse acompañada de una caña.

Antes de que refresque toca ir a dar un paseo por la orilla del río donde puedes alimentar a las ardillas de los jardines del museo de York.

Durante el paseo también puedes ver entrenando a los chicos y chicas del club de remo. ¡Menudos brazos!

Cuando empieza a hacer fresco nos vamos al pub de turno, a seguir disfrutando de una caña en un ambiente puramente inglés.

Si te animas a subir a la catedral, esta es una de las magníficas vistas de las que puedes disfrutar. Detrás de la rueda de York, nuestro hotel, el "Royal Hotel of York".

Cual mi sorpresa cuando descubrí que había un museo dedicado al patchwork. Por supuesto, una visita obligada. Pude disfrutar de una colección de quilts de todo el mundo y de una colección de quilts en miniatura verdaderamente extraordinarios.

Y como no podía faltar, el "Afternoon tea". Lo tomamos en Bettys, el tea room más emblemático de York.

¡Animaros! Seguro que os gusta tanto como a mí.

Además os contaré un secreto... hay varias tiendas de patch chulísimas ...

Una casita para mi Bernina

Parece que estaba esperando a la lluvia para volver con uno de mis últimos proyectos. A finales de julio terminé la funda de la máquina de coser del libro de Veronique Requena.

Ha sido un trabajo duro pero también un placer cuando lo he visto terminado.

It seems I was waiting for the rain to come back to you all with one of my last projects. At the end of July I finished the sewing machine cover from Veronique Requena's book.

It's been a hard work but it was also a great pleasure to see it finished.

Ahora ha llegado el momento de compartirlo con todos. Espero que os guste tanto como a mí. Si os gusta y todavía no os habéis animado, os digo que a pesar de ser un trabajo duro lo vais a disfrutar según la casa vaya cogiendo forma.

En el libro de Veronique no se mostraba la trasera de la casa por lo que me inventé una.

In Veronique's book wasn't shown the back of the house so I invented one myself.

Una vez de vuelta a la rutina, ya estoy pensando en mi próximo proyecto a largo plazo.  Mi amiga MJ y yo nos hemos animado a hacer una cesta del segundo libro de Veronique. Como podéis imaginaros somos admiradoras de los trabajos de Veronique. Y como buenas admiradoras estamos planeando un viaje a Lyon, la próxima primavera, para conocerla en persona.

Once back to the routine, I'm already thinking about my next long term project. My friend MJ and I are encoraged to make a basket from Veronique's second book. As you can imagine we're admirers of Veronique's work. So as good admirers we're planning a trip to Lyon, next spring, in order to meet her in person.

Caponata y sus amigas

¿Qué pasa cuando no puedes evitarlo? Lo ves, te gusta y te dices que esta vez vas a tener paciencia y no vas a caer en la tentación, o eso es lo que piensas. Es muy fácil  hasta que una de tus compis de clase dice las palabras mágicas: “Voy a elegir las telas y me hago uno”. En ese momento sabes que es inevitable y piensas: “¿Por qué no?”... ¡Ya has vuelto a caer!

What happens when you can’t avoid it? You see it, you like it so you tell yourself that this time you’re going to be patient so you won’t fall into temptation, or that’s what you think. It’s very easy till one of you friends at class says the magic words: “I’m gonna choose the fabric to make one”. That’s the moments when you find out that you can’t avoid it so you think: “Why not?”… Once again you’ve been tempted!

Caponata y sus amigas (de izquierda a derecha: Marcelina, Víctor, Clementina y Caponata)

Pues eso es lo que me pasó con la gallina Caponata. La había visto en Internet hace tiempo y me había encantado, sabía que con el tiempo me haría una. Cuál mi sorpresa cuando después de un puente aparece mi profe, Cristina de La Tertulia del Patch, con la gallina hecha. Le había quedado preciosa, con un look country francés fabuloso. En cuanto mi amiga MJ dijo que se la iba a hacer, no pude evitarlo y me apunté. No fui la única; Maribel, otra compi y amiga, también decidió hacerse una. Al día siguiente ya me había impreso el patrón y elegido las telas (más o menos).

So that’s what happened with the hen Caponata (a hen from the spanish Sesame Street). I saw it in the internet sometime ago and I really liked it, I knew that at some point I would make one. I was surprised when after a bank holiday my teacher, Cristina at La Tertulia del Patch, showed up with her own finished hen. It looked really nice, with French country fabulous look. As soon as my friend MJ said that she was going to make one, I couldn’t help it, I was going to make another one for me. I wasn't the only one; Maribel, a new friend from patchwork, also decided to make one for herself. First thing I did the day after was to print the pattern and choose the fabric.

Caponata y sus amigas de compras en La Tertulia del Patch

Algo que me ha gustado mucho de este proyecto ha sido la oportunidad de bordar aunque solo fuese un poco. El año pasado hice el curso de iniciación al bordado pero la verdad es que no he hecho gran cosa. Ahora que se acerca el buen tiempo me apetece hacer algo menos pesado que el patchwork, creo que será un buen momento para comenzar un proyecto con algo más de bordado.

Something I really enjoyed about this project was the chance to do some embroidery. Last year I took the introductory course to embroidery but the truth is that I haven’t done much. Now the good weather is coming I really feel like doing something lighter than patchwork, so I think it will be a good time to start a project with more embroidery.

No puedo espresar la ilusión que me ha hecho recibir estos premios. Llevo poco tiempo en el mundo del patchwork y menos todavía con mi blog, así que no me esperaba esta aceptación.

I can't tell you how happy I feel about getting these awards. It's not long since I started doing patchwork and even less since I started my blog, so I didn't expect this acceptance.

Vistiendo a mi libro

El verano se acerca, pronto estaré enterrando mis pies en la cálida arena mientras miro hacia al mar y disfruto de un buen libro. Mi rutina durante esos días es muy sencilla, dejo el stress en Madrid para relajarme todo lo que sea posible. Me levanto y desayuno en la terraza acompañada de Emily Brönte, Almudena Grandes, Dan Brown o a quien le haya tocado este verano. Cuando bajo a la playa no prescindo de su compañía y, después de buscar un sitio cerca del agua, poner la sombrilla y colocar los bártulos que nos acompañarán en nuestra jornada playera, saco mi bien querido libro para volver a sumergirme en grandes aventuras, amores, desamores y grandes dramas.

Summer is coming, quite soon I'll be burying my feet in the warm sand while I stare at the sea and enjoy a good book. My routine in those days is very simple, I leave stress in Madrid to get as relax as possible. I get up and have breakfast on the terrace while I enjoy the company of Emily Brontë, Almudena Grandes, Dan Brown or whoever has been chosen this summer. When I go down to the beach I don't leave out their company, so after looking for a site near the water, I put the beach umbrella and all the gear we need for a day at the beach, then I pull out my lovely book to immerse myself again in great adventures, loves stories, and great dramas.
 

Tras todo un curso en La Tertulia del Patch, este verano he decido vestir a mi libro. Hoy en día se hacen fundas para todo, la del móvil, la del iPad, ... Así que cuando vi que la gente también hacía fundas para los libros, decidí que tenía que hacerme una de cara al verano, que es cuando más leo.

After a whole school year in La Tertulia del Patch, this summer I've decided to dress my book. Nowadays you have cases for everything, one for the mobile, another for the iPad, and so on.. So when I saw people making cases for the books I decided to make one for this summer, the time when I read the most.

Cuando al salir de clase vi estas maravillosas telas de la colección Cabbages & Roses the Moda Fabrics decidí que tenía que comprarlas para hacer algo para este verano. La semana pasada le pregunté a Cristina, mi profe de patch, si le gustaban para la funda del libro y me dijo que le encantaban. En ese momento me dije que el fin de semana lo haría.

When after leaving the patchwork class and saw these awesome fabrics from the collection Cabbages & Roses from Moda Fabrics, I decided to buy them to do something for this summer. Last week I asked Cristina, my patchwork teacher, if she liked the fabrics to make a bookcase and she told me that she loved them. That's when I told myself that I would do it during the weekend.

Para acompañar la feminidad de las telas, para el marcapáginas, decidí usar un lazo de un tono similar al de las rosas y poner una perla al final del mismo.

In order to match the femininity of the fabrics, for the bookmark, I decided to use a lace in a similar shade to the roses and a pearl at the end of it.

Ahora a disfrutar de un ratito de relax antes del inicio de las vacaciones.

Now I'll enjoy a little moment of relax before I go on holidays.

Funda para el móvil

Cada vez que sacaba el móvil tenía que oír algún comentario del tipo “los protectores esos de plástico mira que son feos, deberías comprarte una funda y no poner un protector tan feo”. ¿Cómo que comprarme una funda? Tenía que pensar en cómo hacerme una.

Each time I take the mobile out of my purse I hear comments like "those plastic protectors look really ugly, you should buy a nice purse for it instead of using such an ugly protector". What about buying a purse? I should think of making one myself.

Hace ya un par de meses, con la funda en mente, compré unas telitas monísimas en La Tertulia del Patch. No obstante, las telitas cayeron en el olvido al fondo de una caja con muchas más telas. Hace poco más de una semana tocó la revisión de turno y cuando las vi me dije, “de hoy no pasa”. Saqué las telas y me puse a medir el móvil, diseñar como quería que quedara la funda y a hacer cuentas centímetros arriba, centímetros abajo.

A couple of months ago, with the case in mind, I bought some really nice fabrics in La Tertulia del Patch. However, these fabrics were forgotten at the bottom of a box with many more fabrics. Just over a week ago I decided to review the fabric’s box so when I saw them again I thought, "I’ll start today the latest". I took the fabric and started measuring the mobile, designing how I wanted the purse and calculating how many centimetres up, how many below, and so on I needed.

Después de mucho medir y pensar, decidí que quería combinar dos tipos de telas, hacerle un bolsillito para la tarjeta del trabajo y una aplicación con un “toquecillo” amoroso.

Aprovechando que tenía botones para forrar también le hice el botón a conjunto.

After much measuring and thinking, I decided I wanted to combine two types of fabric, make a little pocket for my id at work and an appliqué with a loving "touch".

I decided to cover a button with the same dotted fabric so it would look better.

Con la guata está protegido y la verdad es que si comparamos el antes y el después está claro con que opción me quedo.

With the wadding is protected and truth is that if I compare what I had with what I have now it's quite clear which option I choose.

 

A ver si sigo con mis proyectos que tengo a medias y la semana que viene puedo enseñaros alguno ya terminado.

Bolsas para bastidor y labores

Esta semana me he puesto las pilas. Sí, sí, no hago más que empezar proyectos que se van acumulando. Supongo que es muy fácil caer, ves algo que te gusta y lo empiezas pero antes de acabarlo ves otra cosa que también te gusta y en vez de dejarla para la lista de cosas a hacer la empiezas y sigues acumulando. Mi nuevo propósito es intentar no tener más de dos, o como mucho tres, labores a la vez. Siempre me gusta tener una labor que pueda llevar fácilmente conmigo si voy de viaje pero a partir de ahora intentaremos que solo sea una en vez de dos, tres o más (no me lo creo ni yo, a ver cuanto tardo, en cuanto mi profe Cristina aparezca con algo nuevo allá que me lanzo).

This week I got my act together. Oh yes, I start too many projects that I'm beginning to accumulate. I guess it's very easy, you see something you like so you start it but before it's finished you see something new that you like and instead of leaving it for the "to do" list you start it so you keep on accumulating more and more things to do. My new purpose is to try not to work on more than two, or three the most, projects at the same time. I always like to have a project I can easily take with me whenever I travel but from now on I'll try to have only one instead of two, three or more (I can't believe what I'm saying, let's see how long it takes till I forget about it, I guess as soon as my teacher Cristina appears with something new).

Por fin he terminado la bolsa para guardar el bastidor para acolchar. La verdad es que la tenía casi terminada pero estaba buscando una cinta marrón que había comprado hace unos meses y que finalmente no he podido encontrar. He comprado otra en marrón con lunares que también le queda fenomenal.

Además esta semana he hecho un bolso nuevo para la labor. El otro que tengo es demasiado grande y por lo tanto no resulta demasiado cómodo para viajar. Este me lo puedo llevar fácilmente y además ha quedado tan mono que probablemente también lo use como bolso.

Finally I have finished the bag to keep the quilting frame. Truth is that it was almost finished but I was looking for a brown lace I bought a few months ago but finally I couldn't find it.  Instead I bought another brown lace with white dots that also looks great.

I have also made a new bag to take my patchwork. The other one I have is too big so it's not very confy for traveling. The new one I can easily take it with me anywhere and it looks so nice I'll probably use it as a handbag.

Para la bolsa del bastidor de acolchado use la técnica de "vuelo de la oca". Era la primera vez que usaba esta técnica y me gustó mucho. No es díficil y además queda muy bien.

For the bag to keep the quilting frame I used the "flying geese" technique. It was the first time I used this technique and I really enjoyed it. It's not dificult and it looks very nice.

He aprovechado para usar este botón tan chulo que me compré hace tiempo.

Y aquí está mi nueva bolsa para la labor. Todavía que sobraban tiras del jelly-roll que compré para hacer mi otra bolsa de labor en forma de caramelo y las he aprovechado combinándolas con esta maravillosa tela azul con lunares.

So here is my new patchwork bag. I still had some strips of fabril from the jelly-roll I bouth to make my other patchwork candy-shaped bag so I used them together with this gorgeous blue dotted fabric.

Le he puesto un parde bolsillos interiores uno para cosas en general y otro para el móvil.

I have put two interior pockets one for general purpose and another one for the mobile.
